The final stage comes,in the classes for older children (Mi and Sol Class), when the musical concepts are made fully conscious through the introduction of their written symbols. The child gradually learns to associate the sounds heard internally with their written symbols. The basics of music theory are gradually introduced. All musical activities of previous years are taken to the new, more advanced level : classical music appreciation, unaccompanied singing, rhythm games, movement to music including dancing and creative movement, playing tuned and un-tuned percussion instruments, listening to music, both live and recorded, performing, composing and improvising.

While parents are not joining the classes, information for parents is provided on our Parents Portal so that musical exploration may continue at home. Children in the class are encouraged to “teach” their parents things they learn.

Structure . Mi Class ‘level’ consists of 4/5 segments (16 twice a week lessons by 1hr in each segment, starting from September till June). Each segment has a theme (for ex. Seasons in Music, Animalia, Toys World, Winter Tales and many more) and all the activities are theme related. The parents and close family members are welcome to attend the last ‘open’ class of each segment and watch as their children, dressed in theme related costumes, demonstrate what they learned while playing and having fun! For your convenience we developed Parents Portal – just login to find photos, videos from the lessons and teacher’s recommendations posted online.

More about the lessons . As DoMiSol Music program is sequentially developed, our 4-6yrs Level 1 classes are designed for, but not limited to, children who have previously participated in our music education program. Children are taught to read simple notation through stimulating games and visual reinforcement, and basic sight singing techniques are introduced. Each child has a set of chime bars (like a small xylophone with removable notes) so that they can transfer their music literacy skills onto their first tuned instrument. The chime bars are played in ensemble activities where children learn about harmony and part-work. Pre-reading and writing skills introduced in the 3-4 year old program are built upon and extended. Children also participate in dances, singing activities and musical games. They are given regular opportunities to perform for their classmates and the parents.
